The kernel of truth in that is painful. I'd like to think that in past elections the voter issues and discord did not degenerate into street violence not because we are apathetic, but because the people of this country have good sense and emotional restraint. I'd also like to see a little more non-violent protest and open discussion of issues (I remember the 60's, I was alive then) but we have witnessed how the current administration has clamped down on public protest. Isolated fenced free speech areas?(!) We can only hope for the future.
I am alternately sooooo glad this campaign season is almost over, and absolutely terrified something's going to happen, a la Florida or Ohio. I've already voted, so it's not up to me now. I will watch the returns tomorrow even though it's about to give me an ulcer, because I'm pretty much sure my state's electors are not going to go toward my preference. I walked out of the early voting center last week talking to that rarest of species, another Democrat in eastern Tennessee, and we agreed that what we did was the election equivalent of spitting into the wind, but whatcha gonna do? Move? (A gay friend of mine said when he retired, I've GOT to find me a house in a blue state!)
